My LightStar flashlight no longer works because the batteries have leaked.

For Limited Life time warranty products (LightStar 80, 100, 180, 220, & 300):

  • A flashlight that is damaged by battery leakage or corrosion is a condition beyond our control, therefore not covered by the TerraLUX warranty. Please review the TerraLUX warranty statement provided below.
  • The limited lifetime warranty is defined as:

TerraLUX Limited Lifetime Warranty

TerraLUX warrants the LightStar 80, 100,180, 220, & 300 LED flashlights purchased after September 1, 2010 to be free from defects in workmanship and materials for the lifetime of the original owner. We will, at our option and discretion, repair or replace the flashlight, or provide the necessary user-installable replacement components. Product may be replaced with an alternate model if the returned model is no longer in production. This warranty does not cover battery replacement or damage to a flashlight caused by drained, leaking, or defective batteries, nor does it cover damage caused by misuse, abuse, neglect, or products altered from their original state. Accessories such as holsters, wrist-straps, and clips are not covered, whether included in original purchase or not.

What options do I have if the batteries I have recently purchased have leaked and/or exploded in my flashlight causing damage?

  • Keep the batteries and if possible the receipt / original package of the batteries you purchased. This information can help you when you send your battery damaged product to the battery manufacturer. This document is not all encompassing, however it gives you the route and some contact information you can use to contact the battery manufacturer.

Battery Warranties:

Battery leakage is the #1 cause of failure in alkaline-powered flashlights. While TerraLUX does not warrant against battery leakage in its alkaline battery products, the Battery Manufacturers often accept responsibility for damage to products caused by their branded leaking batteries. We suggest that before returning any alkaline lights to TerraLUX for repair, you first try to determine if battery leakage is present. If the battery cap cannot be removed (because of corrosion), or if after removal it is found that there are swollen batteries that cannot be removed from the barrel, or the springs or contacts appear corroded, you (the customer) should use the information presented here to contact the battery manufacturers directly for remediation. You should be able to find additional customer service information on the Internet, however, we’ve provided a few listings below for your convenience:

I can’t find my receipt for my LightStar flashlight can I still send it in for warranty?

  • LightStar series flashlights have a limited lifetime warranty. As long as it is not damaged by leaking batteries, misuse, abuse, or neglect, you can send it in for warranty processing. Cosmetic issues not affecting the operation of the flashlight are considered normal wear and are not covered by warranty.
  • If you can’t locate the receipt, please provide an estimated date of sale. The sale date information will help us track the length of time the flashlight was in use before failure.

Include the following items with your return:

  2. A copy of the receipt, or provide an estimated date of sale on the warranty request form.
  3. The flashlight without batteries installed.

My LightStar flashlight quit working. I have replaced the batteries with new ones and it still does not work. What do I need to do to take advantage of the limited lifetime warranty?

  1.  Remove the back tail cap switch; Install fresh batteries into the barrel.
  2.  With a paper clip simultaneously touch the exposed metal rim of the flashlight and the center of the battery.
  3.  If the flashlight lights up, it is possible you have a tail cap switch that is no longer functional. If this is the issue, we can send you a new switch via the US mail free of charge.
  4.  Generate a warranty submission from our website and identify the need for a new tail cap switch. We will need the model of your flashlight, the color of your flashlight, and your mailing address.

  • TerraLUX Warrants LED conversion Kits for one year from the purchase date. Please provide proof of purchase along with your completed warranty request form.

This date code example is the 48th week of 2012.
